I did it...

I finally broke down and admitted that my own attempts at weight loss were not working. I managed to get to a low of 201 during the intensive dance portion of "Pajama Game", but am back up to 206. I need help and I know I need it. So, I joined Weight Watchers. I attended my first meeting this evening and got my materials. Tomorrow I start logging in my journal. I expected the system to be much more restrictive. The plan I am on allows me to eat to satiation from any of my core foods. I'm not going to publish a list or anything, but suffice it to say that the core foods are things you would expect to see on a healthy diet. Then you have a set number of extra "points" that you can split up however you want over the course of the week. If you want to eat them all at, say, The Cheesecake Factory, you can. If you want to use a few a day for a treat, you can do that, too. The idea is to retrain your body and mind to eat the right things and for the right reasons. I pre-paid for 12 sessions. I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!

I may finally have a reason to get a gaming console

Check out this story: Sony takes video games out of couch-potato realm. Perhaps now my wife will deem a console system worthwhile. They are coming out with a new PS2 accessory that will teach yoga, tai chi, kick boxing and more. You'll be able to opt for customized workouts on multiple skill levels or undergo a 12 week program. I'll have to see some reviews when it comes out before I decide. After all, I'll still need to get the PS2 to go along with it.

Why Do Some People Suck?

So, for those who haven't heard, I am playing Hysterium in a production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (pictures available soon). We open tomorrow night. We are part of the Plays in the Park series. That means we are performing in an outdoor amphitheater. It also means that our set is outside and accessible to anyone that climbs over the fence. Yesterday, between 2 and 5 p.m. some walking piles of excrement decided that they might feel better about themselves if they destroyed the Roman Columns holding up the porch roof on the main house and watched the roof come crashing down. So, with two days to open, we now have some major set repair to do. My first post back in a while and it's an angry one. Grrrrrrrr!

Return of the Native

That's right, I'm coming back to Massachusetts for a visit. Maya Josh and I will be making the trek back in a week an a half. We arrive in Providence at 11:30 on 8/11. We head back to Cali on the 18th. In between we are going to do some hard core visiting. Wanna see us? :) The Saturday and Sunday are unfortunately spoken for already. My nephew, John is turning 1 on Saturday, and we are having a birthday party for Maya with her back East friends on Sunday. We're trying our best to get in touch with folks, but feel free to get in touch with me as well.

Renaissance Music

So, I've been getting into the frame of mind for the Ren Faire this coming weekend. I'll be portraying the Sheriff again and Maya will be playing my kleptomaniac daughter. I've been listening to streaming ren music on http://www.renradio.com. It's a mixed bag, but by and large, I've been enjoying it. Anyway, many of you know my fondness for clever lyrics. Well, I heard a song called Caviar by In Our Cups. The harmonies are very good, but it was the chorus that amused me:

Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon
Virgin sturgeon's a very good fish
No good sturgeon wants to be a virigin
That's why caviar's a very rare dish!
